Illumina: SR.Staff Interaction Designer 175k base, 10% bonus, 140k RSUs Salesforce:L7, Experience Design Manager 180k base, 15% bonus, 87k RSUs 10YoE Total comp is identical but roles are very different. Illumina is more hands on design work, Salesforce feels more like a project manager for design (but possibly better for resume?) Curious what designers from each of these companies might think.
I would not even think about illumina. It has become a shit hole for disasters. I am not sure if illumina has done any significant business impact or innovations since Francis and Susan took lead in 2016. Stalement, crazy politics, scrapping high growth projects, poor acquisitions. The external competition is ramping up and the c suite just ignore them. Not sure how illumina ended up in this position.

Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
Are both roles on-site? If so, SD > SF
Both remote, but I agree! I’ll get to go into office if I want for SD.
That also would protect you in case there is a “return to office” push by either company in the future. Salesforce seems like the type of company that cares about EEs though, so maybe not a big concern on that end.
