If we take away whether there's better ways to judge a candidates abilities or not. Does anybody believe leetcode style problems are good indicator someone is a good engineer in their specialized field? I've had this discussion with FAANG interviewers before, and every answer is always "do I personally think it it matters? No, but I guess It can help you understand the way somebody solves problems." It honestly sounds like most interviewers don't even believe in what they're assessing the individual in, but are forced to defend the way they're asked to do it. Everybody is aware of the fact that FAANG interviews have become nothing more than Leetcode grinding sessions and being asked questions which answers are variations of the same 6 formulaic algorithms question types. Why isn't this being addressed, when the impact has drastict effect on the industry as a whole?
I think you can evaluate a candidate asking almost any questions.
FAANG interviews aren't standardized tests, and can be random in nature. You're being graded on how somebody percieves you performed.
Also interacting with them on solving a problem. I evaluate whether I feel that the team would work well when working with the candidate. Taking into context the interview jitters people typically get.
Everybody is being judged by mostly a different interviewer, who is personally assessing how they felt you approached the problem. Which by it's very definition means it's not a standardised test I'm not saying it should be standardized, it was meant as a reply to comparing it to an IQ test.
You’re absolutely right. I’ve never asked anyone a silly leetcode question and my opinion of the interviewer drops if they ask me such a question. I typically crush leetcode style questions, but I don’t think they have almost anything at all to do with any sort of job I’ve ever done. I think people do it out of laziness or lack of imagination.
Op, let's be realistic. Leetcode is the CHEAPEST and EASIEST way to judge a candidate, not the best way. If a wrong guy is hired, he still can be put on PIP. Companys' purpose is to profit, not to fairly rank every candidate's programming skills.

OP - complaining on blind is not going to change anything. You can argue with strangers all day but it won’t change anything. Stop wasting your time. Now start leetcoding.

This is what every mediocre fuck says. If you’re memorizing LeetCode you’re doing it wrong. Algorithmic challenges have made me a genuinely better programmer and problem solver.
I couldn't agree more. Tech industry has advanced leaps and bounds, but the interview process not so much in the past few years. I actually am repelled by the FAANG companies for this exact reason.
If leetcode was that easy then almost every candidate would get through to a faang. Not everyone can master leetcode even if they have a CS degree
If weightlifting was that easy, almost every basketball player would be a weightlifter. Whoever said that mastering leetcode is necessary to be a software engineer
@Cisco, Leetcode is a virtual necessity to be a software engineer at those companies specifically.
Why are SATs still a thing? Why are GREs still a thing? Basic IQ test
