How hard is L4 -> L5 at Netflix?

I’m currently on a dead end team at my current job as an L4. I have small scope and it’s bad for my career. How hard is a promo from L4 -> L5 at Netflix if I grind?#

I’ve heard the same thing about 5 to 6. As long as Netflix gives me lots of room to grow with autonomy and initiative I’ll be happy, even if I stay at 5 later

+1, tons of folks get promo’d from 4 to 5, almost no one in engineering can go from 5 to 6.

It’s not an objective grind. Factors like your manager willing to fight for you and put you out there / say you’re better than others, innovation in your work and being willing to clearly look better than everyone else while still maintaining likability… it all matters.

Netflix is not known as a good place to career. Never was, certainly is not now. It used to pay extremely well, but even that is gone.
