Interviewed at facebook for E5 recently. Recruiter claimed all along that I'm being interviewed for E5. The day after the interview, I got a congratulatory email saying the hiring committee approved an offer for me. A few days later the recruiter slyly slips into an email this like "by the way, your offer was approved at Level 4", which completely shocked me. Now, is there a way to convert the E4 offer to E5? Does a competing offer help? I have more than enough experience and skill set that is required for E5. edit: yoe : 7 yoe as tech lead : 2 toc : 100k in an asian country
Usually not. Leveling is done during interview and can't be normally changed after the interviews.
Unfortunate.
I think everything is possible is your interview went well and you have counter from Google
how about a counter from a startup?
Fb doesn't care
Install imagemagick man convert
Get a counteroffer from Google with total comp above what fb can pay for E4, they will have to match your google offer with E5 then. Only way
i have an offer from a start up with tc more than facebook E4 offer
You can try it but they usually only bend the rules for Google
Feel free to not take it
You probably didn’t do very well in the interviews so they placed you at a lower level, bring a competing offer
i thought they reject candidates who didn't do well in interviews.
Yeah but if you do relatively well with some mixed reviews it will affect the leveling
Levels are decided based on interview performance (Jedi + Pirate). You didn’t show enough leadership and design depth. No # of years is irrelevant. FB will give out E4 to candidates up to 9 years of experience. At 9+ it’s E5 or no hire.
This makes complete sense
Agree YoE doesn’t matter that much, it’s about how you perform at the interview
They are ticking you
If you didn’t get an IC5 offer that means that the hiring committee believes you would struggle at that level. You don’t want to be hired as 5 with a significant chance to fail to meet expectations and be managed out later (as a manager I’ve seen a couple of these cases). Take the offer and show that you are actually an IC5 when you join, then you’ll get promoted to IC5. The caveat with this approach is that your initial grant will be lower. But you will have set foot in the Bay, gain experience in a faang company and a promo. With all that in your hands you can easily find an IC5 offer somewhere else, with its corresponding initial grant, in the future.
You are talking like the interview performance and hiring committee’s evaluation is equivalent to performance at a level.
That is the whole point of the interview process and leveling. It is not exactly equivalent but there is a big correlation between leveling and actual performance. Of course, anyone is free to decide that the hiring comitee is wrong and that they have missleveled. Having been involved in the hiring process, I don’t think I would take such risk but...
YOE?
added. with 7 yoe, E4 seems like a demotion
Which part of it you gained in the US?
