For those who has not watched it - it's a sitcom about a typical company (call center) in India, showing various people and their relationships through the eyes of an American man. I understand there are some exaggerations, like in any comedy, but does it correctly convey the spirit, idea, and culture?
Okay, I can understand - maybe to an outsider, that might seem like a ballpark representation. But from what I've seen of the show, it looks like a script written by someone who has not even been to India π Just watch it for the comedy I guess, not observing the culture π
The movie is way better than the TV show.
Thanks, I'll watch it.
Pretty much every joke from movie was its own tv episode. Movie was way better. Still it was exaggerated but funny I thought.
I absolutely love this movie and actually know the director, Jonathan Jeffcoat, and one of the main actors, Asif Basra, quite well and consider them friends (i.e.: they text me back). I thought the movie was extremely well done with a very uncanny understanding of what India looks like through the eyes of a foreigner. I thought it completely captured the beauty and essence of India in ways no other film has been able to, and I make every friend I have watch this movie. And yes, I am Indian :) a truer movie was never made about a first time in India! PS. Jonathan did spend some time in India and is still in love with India to this day.
Yes, the movie is quite different from the show. Movie is done with love, emphasizing the good things, while not hiding the bad - as opposed to the show, that highlights and "grotesques" the bad things.
I haven't watched the TV show, but the movie painted a pretty accurate picture on most fronts. However keep in mind that the more developed/tech savvy cities/people are very different.
Hence a huge motivation, for education as a way for a more fulfilling life. Something that is often missing for kids in developed countries. "I already have everything - why I need to study/work hard".
Lol... Seriously?
Why?
