About to join JPMC as a new grad, after team search they put me up with a team in the CTO LOB which works in cloud and they said it would majorly be working "terraform" and AWS. my doubt is isn't this more of SRE? or is this also dev ? Could anyone please explain ? Wouldn't pure java / c++ dev work be better ? or is cloud the future and I should get into this ? should I say no to them and start for a new team search? I plan on saying give me some work in Java, i guess that would be dev. Please help. Any input/ thought would be really helpful for me . ( Though, How is the CTO LOB in jpmc does anyone know ? should I stick to it or try for something in CIB ? ) EDIT: TC: low, penauts Location : UK #jpmc #jp #jpmorgan #chase #cloud #terraform #software #engineering #swe
Run away from Tools. Work more on Languages where you need to do the real coding not operating tools
Yes agree with you!
but isn't cloud like the future ? sorry I am a new grad and would be great to get advice from people already in. I fee like everyone is doing core / java demand for cloud eng ( teraform aws) will be high but then this isnt actually hard core coding. Thoughts ?
CTO org does tools for cloud adoption. It is *not* SRE. Basically they build various tools to make it easier for other dev teams to deploy to cloud. You could followup with the HM to see what stack is, but at least one thing you might work on is the internal Jenkins library that supports all the deployments. That's written in Groovy. Maybe some of the provisioning tools which are likely Java. I know a couple of the directors in CTO and they are very good. I would totally recommend this org for a new grad (guessing you're coming in through SEP?). You should get a good environment for learning and growth.

TC and location? Would recommend you to ask them for Java Development and Cloud work i.e devops Also if possible try for directly revenue generating division like CIB department . Also I doubt is the possible for you to change the team after allocation initially?
I am not yet allocated to it. The manager has accepted me, I am yet to accept the manager, I can deny too. Could you please explain how java and cloud work would go together ? would be really grateful. is CTO LOB not a good one ?
You are asking for help from the community and yourself not helping the community by sharing compensation details and location Anyways I am not aware of CTO team at Jpmc but directly revenue generating applications in CIB teams would definitely help in terms of development as well
