Anyone else slacked off at work with the intention of being fired, so that you could actually collect unemployment? Any words of advice? Before anyone says "you don't need $600/week, you have Google bucks, hurr durr"... Uhh ok. I still want the $600/week plus standard unemployment. I'm in my late 30's, no debt, no kids, already reached financial Independence. Seems painfully embarrassing to do nothing until you're fired, but like I said, it would be nice to collect unemployment. Alternatively I could wait for layoffs, but who knows if and when those are coming.
pre covid, I thought about quitting and taki ng a long sabbattical and travelling, but not any more with all the covid out there
Keep coasting .. work 2 hours a day and chill for the rest
Does Google have PIP?
That's exactly what I'm doing these days. And you know what? Manager doesn't even notice I'm working much less. Stupid idiot
Have you ever collected unemployment before? It fucking sucks. They treat you like a child, ask for proof that you applied for jobs each week, are stuck in some other time where there's a name and phone number for each job you applied for they can call to confirm, waiting periods and other nonsense. It's a lifeline for people who lose their jobs, not fun easy money. Without the 600, max is only 450 per week. And it's taxable income.
Wait it's taxable? Does that mean a lot of people who received it and spent it all will be fucked come tax season?
Taxes get withheld from unemployment payments.
I don’t think you can slack off and get fired at Google. I did a whole cycle of doing bare minimums and got EE just because that’s where I was in Google’s CME -> EE -> SEEx2 promo timeline.
What! That's shocking to learn!!
Could you elaborate a bit what bare minimum means? Like how many hours do you actually work each week? With or without the meetings?
Doesn’t getting fired negatively affect your next interview?
600/week won’t last long. You’re making all these plans and by the time they fire you wops 600/week isn’t there anymore
Move to FB, get that 100k signing bonus in your first pay check and then get fired. That last part is very easy at FB so you don’t have to stress to much about it. On top of that you will have left G in good standing and be eligible for rehire after you get bored and/or the benefits run out.
This is actually a great idea lol. You get the safety net of returning + fb signin. And you can easily get fired from fb
Do you need to stay at least a year to keep the signing bonus? I've heard of companies asking for it back or a portion if you leave early
Unfortunately, not doing anything at Google is CME. You need to sabotage work to get NI
CME = ?
NI?
Super hard to get fired from G lol
Easy, just write open letter
600/wk is gone now
The Dems and Repubs are negotiating a new amount, as I understand it. Maybe it won't come to pass, or maybe the Dems sweep Congress and the White House, and give unemployed people $600/week forever.
It'll still be at least $200/week - I can live off $1200/month w/ state benefits too
