I'm leaving Meta in less than a year, around 10 months in, and got an email stating I need to pay back a prorated amount of the sign in bonus for the remaining 2 months which is around 10k. Are there any consequences if I ignore this? What happens if I don't pay back the sign in bonus? TC 240 after stock drop EDIT: Hey all! Thank you so much for the responses, never thought this post would get so many comments. I guess the main reason I wanted to keep it was because of the stock drop, since it started dropping right after I join for the next 6 months to the point I was making almost half the TC I initially got. Although honestly the 10k doesn't even begin to cover what I lost due to the drop. But I guess that's not really a valid reason and it's still unethical to keep it. I'll return it and hope to at least go to heaven if there is one after death or something.
I never paid Amazon back - had no trouble getting rehired later on but I only owed $2k They chased me for awhile but only lightly via phone/email. Didn’t seem serious
Did you just ignore the emails and calls?
I would reply would bs like “let me call you back” and “I should be able to pay soon” if I recall, then just ignored entirely
It’s a probably part of the contract you signed. So they can come after you, but for 10k it’s not worth their time.
They could possibly come after you with a lawyer. But it may not make sense for them financially to do so.
You overestimate. It’s all automated. It’s one hour of a lawyers time and by that I mean some 22 year old paralegal who has to copy paste some docs and bring forward a legal claim against OP
Not to mention the damage it will do to OP’s reputation in the future. It will likely show up in background checks which we all know are already begrudgingly slow and growing in scope.
Ofcourse there would be consequences, it would go to some collection agency and they will come to you in few months.. Think in the same way as using credit card and not paying ?
Doubtfully goes to collection 😂
No. They do not report to a collection agency.
Why are you leaving in 10 months?
Stock is down 50%
What if it goes up 200% in a year?
Zuck will hire debt collectors to get you...... in the MetaVerse
This 😂😂
Sweet Baby Ray's doesn't grow on trees. Need those Zuck Bucks from collections to pad the bbq budget.
I’d pay it back. They can sue you for more than 10K to claim for lawyer fees and unpaid interest. This can quickly add up from 10K to 100k.
and then it could go from 100k to 1M and potentially from 1M to 100M
Just pay back and have a piece of mind more importantly you'd know that you have done it right way...
I think it would all depend on whose mind do you get a piece of…
