Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
depends which office you are joining? and whether you are coming as remote or not. And what type of team are you looking for? Teams focus on product growth, product, or infra? The other thing you need to know is Meta changes alot. So by the time you start, the teams available would be different. Also, each org, and team work differently. For example, FB app is more bottoms up. Engineers have a bit more say on what to build. Instagram is more top down and harder to suggest changes. And how each individual teams operate can also differ alot. In other words, its hard to say, without knowing what you are looking for. But I do think there is something for everyone in Meta. And switching teams in Meta is pretty seamless. So if you dislike your first team, you can usually switch the year after
Remote I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for, and would pretty much be open to anything. Instagram is appealing because it is an app that I've used for a long time, and I think it's cool. As for product or infra, I have absolutely no idea. What's better?
I mean the nice thing with Meta is that you spend the first 6-8 weeks training and finding a team. If you are not sure what you are interested in then Meta doesn't really lock you into a team. And during bootcamp, you can actually talk to teams and sit with them to work on task to get a feel of what it's like to be in the team. So you can spend a couple of days on each team that you interested in and work with them before deciding to join the team. So given you are still discovering your interests, Meta is pretty suited for that. And team switching is real easy. I came in as a mobile engineer and join a desktop engineer after bootcamp: And then switch to a complete different tech stack on a different team. And also, you are excited about instagram. There's definitely going to be a team in IG that will have an available position. But i would keep myself open minded about other teams. There's alot of cool stuff that Meta is doing. Don't limit yourself too much
