Asking for a friend, he is undergrad in architecture and working as interior designer. He wants to switch to graphic designing as he sees no future with interior design. What is best route for him? Will his experience count towards these roles? #design #graphicdesign
Architecture grad who's shifted from marketing design into UX here, his experience won't mean much but his background helps as he'll have a design mindset. He's going to have to learn a lot either way, agreed with others that UX would be a good route to go.
Would UX design need coding knowledge? These days everyone wants full stack i guess. I see lot of profiles of UX folks with computer science grad. My friend has literally no interest or knowledge in coding.
His interior design won't count too much (at all). He needs to build a graphic design oriented portfolio. Also depends on which graphic design he wants to dabble in (branding? marketing? etc) he probably should build a diverse portfolio if he doesn't have any actual design experience.
Maybe he should pick up ux design instead and try to get into tech. Low pay for both interior and graphic.
Agree with this. Had a couple of colleagues from industrial design now working in UX design.
Thanks for reply. Its more about interest than money, he hopes not to work for others for too long. He is more artsy than techie, so going into UX is less of an option. Even right now he is freelancer and wants to continue as one but maybe better to start with an employer first. Interior designing needs lot of physical work and hence less ROI for projects.
