How is the process of H1B while candidate is not in US? I am thinking about skipping ship, and want to try to relocate to US while at it. Considering other FANG/MATAN (not Amazon) companies. Is it common to interview for US positions while still being in Europe? Will company give a candidate an offer knowing that he might not get H1B lottery after all? Will company prefer to recruit to local office instead? #meta #google #nvidia #microsoft
You can try within Apple right? They can do some internal transfer through L1
True, but see the “skipping ship” part.
only realistic option is moving internally with Apple. You are not going to get an H1-B offer. For an H1-B visa that would let you start working in October 2024 you should be applying right now. You haven’t. So the earliest you can start working on H1-B is October 2025. But even then you only have less than 30% of getting picked in the lottery. So this means no real employer would be willing to do this. Your easiest ( and practical) option is move within Apple. You can get an L visa which is for intra company transfer. Once in the US they would process H1 for you, this will likely take couple of years. Once you get H1-B you can transfer that to any other employers easily. Note: there are other visas you can get. But they are not discussed widely because they are impossible to qualify for
Thanks for elaborate answer.
If you are born in a non India non China country, you can move internally within Apple on L1 and I believe they'll apply for your green card that you can get within 2 years. Once you have that you are free to move anywhere. No H1B headache. Note that all companies will require you to sign a contract that makes you pay back the relocation expenses if you leave within a year of shifting and hence you are anyways tied to a company for 1-1.5 years once you move.
Thanks all for your help. I see that there is no reasonable option to skip ship and relocate. I have to choose one or the other
Just cross the border illegally and claim asylum.

Absurdities of the Bay Area 😒
Keep dreaming. No firm will give US offer or apply for visa until you have another valid us visa like f1. It’s not 2000’s.
Why? How is it different for F1 holders from company perspective?
If you’re on F1, you have a US degree (most likely a Master’s degree). This increases your probability of getting an H1 and its just change of status instead of a new visa application altogether so easier to manage the logistics.
