Hi Blind, I have been trying to make it into the tech sector (in Product) for quite a while now but it's getting me nowhere. Recently, started reading about the CPM certificate and even got myself AIPMM membership to access their materials with hopes of starting my prep to go ahead with the exam - just so that I have something in Product Management (even theoretical) than nothing. Just wanted to see what y'all have to say about this exam, or if it's even worth it? If not, what alternative methods do you suggest to break into Product at FAANG, Microsoft, etc.? YOE: 3 years => 2 years pre-MBA Engineering/Project Management experience in automotive, and 1 year post-MBA in Strategic Finance (current role) Immigration Status: on F-1 OPT (applied for STEM extension last weekend) - sponsorship is another factor to look for. TC: $110k (at a non-profit company) Location: Boston, MA #AIPMM #tech #faang #amazon #microsoft #apple #google #meta #netflix #product #pm #productmanager
Do 1 change at a time, not 2. Get into the tech industry for strategic finance. THEN switch internally to PM. I made a similar mistake back in the day, just came from a different job role. Applied to hundreds of jobs, didn’t get squat. Applied for my speciality, got lots of interviews, got in. Then worked my way to PM
Any advice on how to get it? I am honestly at a point where i feel like I need the PM job to get PM experience and PM experience to get a PM job. 🤷🏻♂️
I mean I have tons of achievements and things that I have done in the past that I can easily relate to some if not most of the things that a PM does, but recruiters/ATS don't seem to agree...
