Facebook and Instagram growth was driven by network effect . Friends joined, more friends were invited and joined and then it became the popular place people spent time. Naturally advertising followed and the $$$ Now people are spending less time on FB and IG , and then their friends spend less time and advertisers are leaving How does Meta drive more active users ? What would make you go back to FB daily like you did before ?
I think while the engagement on FB is decreasing, IG is still strong and with the new tools for creators it might get back on track. Plus if they are able to monitiE whatsapp somehow it will be a game changer. Let’s see
Why are Chinese obsessed with meta dying?
Here's the lesson: All social media is ultimately MySpace
People are spending less time and advertisers are leaving? Are you sure?
According to Q2 SEC filing , average price per ad decreased by 14% year over year
This meta guy is defending meta everywhere lol , I am sure he or she never worked in any other company in life and now living in fear of lay off , we feel you 🥺
A theory: They need to purge people’s old friends from their archaic friend lists (this will never happen and would probably be perceived as suicide). There are two types of social media users. Those trying to amass an audience and those who enjoy a close knit network. Mathematically more close knit networks as opposed to everyone being friends with everyone is less valuable (since there is more clustering and less connections made). Facebook, believes and optimizes in the former. However, close networks lead to larger contributions from all participants. All users contributing is the Mecca for a social network company. Having many close knit networks worked well for Fb in the early days. But now there are negative network effects at play, unless someone is truly still friends with their entire friend list, they (most people) become reluctant to post cringy things to a network of people they are no longer truly connected to. Think about it, your group chat behavior today is probably far more similar to your early Facebook use than your behavior on Fb today. Would you really want an inside joke you post to a close friend to appear in the newsfeed of all your high school friends you haven’t spoken to in ten years? I wouldn’t. The reality is nobody really makes friends on social media, they make friends in real life and then add them in Facebook/ig but as time goes on the fb network effect is more a ghost of your past network than the ephemeral reality of your real life social connections. I think the focus on creators and the goal of over-connecting everyone is making social media far more like single channel television, which ultimately undermines the original value and diversified network effect of what they had. WhatsApp is probably their product that will be able to stand the test of time the longest. I will be shocked if big blue is around in 20 years.
I thought your argument sounded interesting. But then I wondered if this concept might apply the same to LinkedIn? And then I pet a smelly dog on the way to my next job interview. Later the interviewers unanimously rejected me because they said I smelled like wet dog. Nobody wants to work with smelly colleagues. But on my way out of their building I passed that same dog in the hall, and he is the CEO! I got hired on the spot as a VP and I immediately fired all my interviewers. Sadly, my social media content still sucks on FB and LI equally. Agree?
I think LI has a fundamentally different value prop and dynamic. I also think there is far greater incentive to keep LI up to date largely driven by external forces out of your immediate network than by the intrinsic forces of your close friends/family, so no, I don’t think this applies to LI at all. Congrats on the dog and new role I guess.
No one's going to go around wearing AR glasses all the time. Really. No one. AR via a phone, sure. I get to a place and want to know more I can get some information about it from my phone. Basically Pokemon game with useful information.
Ok please tell what you smoke capital one , you are so delusional. Meta won’t survive for next 5 years 🙁
