Hi All, I am working for a company for 3~ years and want to leave. I was hired as a UX Designer, but gradually also started to be a product owner, a project manager, and a QA person. Basically, I am the only product professional in the team except my manager, who is a co-founder of the start-up and de-facto the product director. In the beginning of my employment, I was mostly focused on UX, but after building out website and mobile applications, management and QA started to take most of my time. I don't like that! While, I have been raising my concerns for a while now, I believe that my decision will be a surprise, and I am sure that the first thing that will happen is that he will try to convince me to stay. At this stage, I don't really care what he will suggest and I want to avoid the convincing stage, yet I also want to leave on good terms, with recommendations, etc. Is it OK in your opinion to resign via email? I guess that conversation will be inevitable, but I am more concerned about the first "shock". Thanks in advance! #resignation #leaving
If you want to leave on good terms, like with ending ant relationship, don't just send a text then ghost. Have a conversation, like someone with guts.
Depends what you say in the email. I prefer face to face.
Give your manager a call and resign. Be stern and excited about your new opportunity and appreciate their support. The call is a courtesy. The email is just a formality. If you didn’t like them or care much, you’d send the email and forget the courtesy.
You could also offer temporary support and training for a limited time as they find a replacement.
You can convey it easily and they can understand completely if you do it in person. Even if you put an email, there gonna be follow up meetings. Going in person solves the situation better I guess
I'm literally in the exact same boat. Crazy coincidence! My plan is to setup a zoom call. I would prefer to do it face to face but this is not an option due to the self isolation situation. My advice is not to just send an email. Too cold and it will burn bridges.
Be a professional and resign in person or on a call. The email is usually a follow-up formality. You don’t want to wonder if they read the email yet.
Can I refer me as your replacement?? I'm struggling to get a job. Ux here
I’m still contemplating when and how to leave and I might end up as a consultant there for some time, but once I terminate my employment, we can definitely talk and I will be glad to help (them and you). Please PM me if you want. Cheers.
Not Ok. Just stop showing up. They’ll eventually get the signal. Let them down easy.
LOL

If you can be fired over an email or a 2 min zoom call one may argue you may do the same to them. But listen, small world, very much inter connected and so do not burn bridges on the way out. Man up and set up a meeting to talk about the decision. Good luck !
Really like the “man up” approach! Thanks.
