Some background first: I joined Amazon straight out of college in India and have spent 7 years here, currently an SDE 2. I moved to Seattle on L1 visa 3 years back. I'm targeting promo next year but bored with the daily grind of completing tasks, designing services and hammering LPs into daily conversations. Should I do Masters? Does it provide any advantage from a career POV? I have no interest in doing research. #engineering #software #swe #masters #ms TC 250k
if you don't want to do research, and you're also not interested in starting a company in the future with a niche service that would require additional upskill or credentials for prestige, then avoid and build a startup on the side or take on another job if you're bored
This. A Master's in CS adds zero value if you're not interested in the academic field and already (close to) senior SWE in FAANG. Use your boredness to launch a startup or idea instead
Unless you get into a big name universities. Not worth a it! Don’t waste your time and money.
Are you single? A masters is a great idea to have fun, find a good wife and then double your tc
Single, yes. Double your TC, how?
uber is adding wife’s TC
Do it
Why?
I wouldn’t look at it purely objectively in terms of TC in short term. MS at your stage will give you exposure new ideas, perspectives and most importantly network. Moreover, it is a much better distraction/ diversion that you seem to be looking for. In long term, I think it will be a good decision.
