I love the people that I work with, the perks are unmatched by most companies (especially under 100), and the WLB is very laid back. However, I am not being challenged and there are not likely to be any career advancement opportunities because turnover and growth are nearly zero in the engineering department. So on the one hand I am frustrated because there is nowhere for me to grow and little chance to increase my responsibilities, but on the other hand I have a stable job with people I genuinely care about. Should I be grateful for what I have and maintain the status quo or find another company with a great culture that can also provide a challenge? If the latter, what companies in Seattle are we talking about?
Go to Facebook if u want career advancement opportunities and growth.
Nah Amazon is way better. Free bananas
Facebook, really?
Schweitzer Engineering Laborator, really?
Perks are good for now, career growth is good for the future.
I have 13 YOE and I have been at the company for 5 years. I spent the last year basically treading water.
Sounds like it's time to switch
I have worked at 10 companies in my career and I am miserable. I can only say that I liked my company and coworkers at one place. I wish I was still there. Hardly is the grass greener. It sounds like you have a good thing going so do this. Stay there. Go back to school part time and get another degree of some kind, also start a small side business, pick out some professional goals like getting more fit or something. Stay put and try to get the missing growth or satisfaction somewhere else
Thank you for sharing.

If you're the most talented person in the room it's time to move on.
The grass is always greener over the septic tank ...
Didn’t mean to hit post ... Sounds like you have a pretty sweet gig. But, you aren’t challenged at work. Challenges don’t have to come from work. You can create your own. Work on an OSS project. Build an app. Do tech work for a charity. Found a startup. If challenge is the key thing missing, go find it and keep a job that you clearly love. Sincerely Old Dev Dude
No the grass is not greener. You should not be grateful for current situation. You should be desperately looking for switching.
Join us. F5 has a great culture. We're pivoting into a cloud first company, so there are great challenges!
I don’t know much about the company, but the products are solid.
I'm glad you say that! :)
