Pika Lab -> valuation a $1B in a short time but its entire product is now replaced by OpenAI API call (Sora) Twelve Labs -> it is a search within videos (built over 5 years with priorirary tech) but Gemini with large context size replaces it https://youtu.be/wa0MT8OwHuk?si=bOxkUwJl5hDJCIlh Not to mention stackoverflow, grammarly, Jasper, etc. all tech companies with AI are cooked with foundational changes from openai, google, and potentially Meta
Twelve labs? Not quite. They’re still ahead considering Gemini and OpenAI are general models where as they don’t work quite as well for specific niche cases like defense, surveillance, etc
The thing is the OpenAi is moving really fast and executing well. Usually startups are not able to do everything or they do it very poorly.
Helps to have 10B
OpenAI is Microsoft. They’re not a scrappy startup, but rather infinite money glitch war chest Goliath Satya was genius in setting it up like this tho cuz they still have a reputational shield They learned from Tay. 😂 Now they can move fast, spend billions, and not worth about core brand risk. And it’s working quite well
It's not at all clear to me that the market has “ decided” that the open AI based solutions will win over the vendor specific ones.
Most startups fail, and half of the population is below average. Don’t take survivorship and bias as the norm. One day AI will just be boring cheap electricity and below average pay for high school graduates.
