I heard the job market for MLEs in FAANG and other big tech companies has gotten better. Can anyone confirm this? If so, is this only for Sr-level and above? Would I be considered for that if I have an MS, 2 YOE in distributed systems at a big tech company, and 3 YOE working on computer vision and deep learning (model development/training/etc but no deployment) at a no-name company?
Most of the market seems to be oriented towards people that know how to do distributed training or deploy extremely large models, so unless you have that specific experience you might find it particularly hard. The other side that is hiring are speculative startups that might fizzle out quite quickly, with many people in leadership that don't actually know anything about the tech, but have an idea they think is good.
Can confirm.
It's rough, 250 applications and only 5 responses for someone with 6 years of experience, 4 at MAANG.
Referrals might work. I am applying on LinkedIn and company websites but did not receive any calls yet.
Anecdotally yes reachouts have increased a lot but I haven’t done any interviews.
