I have been at Amazon for 11 months now. My manager has always maintAined that am a stellar performer and that he will support me in promo. However, I found out that the VP is really unhappy with my manager and his skip (the skip reports to VP). Am stuck, because if I change teams, then it resets my L6 track and delays promo but if I stay, I just feel my manager and skip won’t be able to convince the VP, considering their reputation. In Amazon, doesn't L6 promo require L8 approval only? VP is L10+
Ours is unique situation, we don’t have L8.
L7 reports to L10? No wonder VP is unhappy with them
Forget about it. I have never seen external hire promotion within 3 years

L5 to L6 bar is very unreasonably high. You basically need PE to give you thumb up

For 5 -> 6, as long as the doc is well written and your manager and skip approve, it should be fine. VPs cannot micromanage a 5->6 promo

Manager just submitted mine L4 to L5. Manager and skip onboard, 10+ promoters, well written doc. Been operating clearly at next level for 1y according to peers feedback. It didn’t pass as the panel voted not inclined. I’m moving out of amazon or out of the org.
Pretty much same politics everywhere. If VP can’t look beyond his personal beefs with his reports and value talent best is to just switch and get more $$
