Currently interviewing for L6 role . HR said they won’t consider me for L7 as that’s GPM because I don’t have 10 plus YOE in PM. What’s the salary range for L6 ? How is promotion path to GPM in PM? Should I just hold off and apply again later? Possible to join as L7? Current TC: 450K , YOE: 11( 7 YOE in PM)
I can’t look internally. Who is this person. I am from other company..
What google means is that if you’ve ever worked with someone who is now at google and is a VP and they can vouch for you’ll be better able to get up leveled. It’s all nepotism but that’s the name of the game.
Can someone share the YoE band for L5, L6, L7? I am 7 YoE PM experience and at an L5 but maybe I should just retry next year for l6/l7? Im a Sr. Pm right now
I have 11.5.. HR wants to put me in L6.. tbh there is no YOE requirement
Ah okay maybe then L5 is right up my alley then. Kind of a downgrade when Im going from a Sr. to just PM but whatever we'll see what the TC is after i get team matched
Depends on location, but assuming national or premium market rate city L6 is roughly: Base: 190-230+ Bonus: 20% Equity: 500-900+ (accelerated vesting 33/33/22/12) Refreshers: ~$160k annually (none in Y1) for Meets All (usually higher due to multipliers though) TBH you should interview and see if you even get an offer and if so at what level. Apple doesn't have a big software product management culture. I'm not doubting your ability, but as I am sure you know, Google often down-levels even experienced candidates or leave them in team match purgatory. Promotion path from 6-7 is not guaranteed at all. The fastest is 2.5-3 years (~10%), if you are a rockstar and stood up entire new products and/or teams within that time frame. Less than 1-5% get promoted in less than 2 years. Many never get promoted at all. Getting hired as an external L7 PM is extremely rare, especially considering the downlevel tendency. You'll often find VPs at non-FAANG companies getting hired at L7 at Google. You are at Apple, but still it isn't really known for PMs. Only ~6% of all PMs at Google are L7+.
Thanks a lot
I’m L6 non tech with a 244K base, 20% bonus, 693K initial grant
The YOE rule is really stupid.
But who says Op deserves L7? He makes low L6 money today and is probably L6 equivalent level too
Low? What is L6 pay then
Any referal for me to Google? Prefer to SEA, JP, US region
Love how you come flying into someone else's post looking for a referral... Only for specific regions at that too
The balls on this guy.
L6->7 PM promos are tough! (Going through this now). Though with grad and the new promo process they might be easier to get
What is the new the process and what is grad?
TL;DR perf is now once a year with a new system based on on going tracking of expectations against your role profile. While promo no longer is a self packet and is driven by manager mostly
Google never reached out to me. Amazon, and Meta, reach fairly frequently. Any suggestion on how to get the attention of a recruiter?
Maybe get into Amazon/ Meta first to increase chances of getting tapped by G
Both path to L7 are tough but not sure which is tougher. Getting from L6 to L7 would be about 4-6 years. Joining as L7 would need impressive resume, interviews, and luck in team match.
What does Amazon L7 map to? L6 at Google?
Yup
so google L7 is Amazon Director? or is it more like 7.5 at amazon?

Israeli precision-guided munition likely killed group of children playing foosball in Gaza, weapons experts say
They had said the same to me for a L7 eng manager position and I politely told them I am not interested in interviewing for L6 positions. They upgraded to L7. But to be fair, I was short by just 1 year from their required exp
Do this. L7 promos are almost impossible
