So I have heard from several people that Deloitte is known to lay people off in downtimes. Some people get brought back, others not. With a possible recession looming this makes me especially nervous. I'm on an investment project which puts everyone in the project on soft footing for layoffs. That's because the project isn't revenue generating. There was a recent decision which will ultimately delay deployment to prod by several months. This delays us closing several deals with clients. I very much disagreed with decision because the initial scope of the project has been completed. But alas the decision is above my pay grade. Funding is solid through the summer. Only been at Deloitte a year. I have a promotion coming next week. Should I start looking for a new job? TC: 100k YOE: 4
Not ideal, but being junior/low comp it is easy to switch you to another project. It is normally the high comp people that arent earning that are most at risk.
Or being on the bench which this has a risk of ending up.
Always be on the lookout!
How is new job safer?
I could work at a company that's less likely to lay a ton of people off. Big4 is not super secure in that way.
I don’t know if any company will be spared. Being new also might put you at the top of the layoff list. If you are established with good reputation you may have a chance.
I would try to get a job outside of Deloitte. New grads at MSFT and other companies make as much as you are and with 4 YOE it should be more. I’d go for something relatively stable like MSFT or G
I guess one is my senior engineer is mentoring me. Which I'm actually in desperate need of.
deloitte, dude, no. I had that mentality for five years and thats why I wasted five years on peanuts. theres brilliant people everywhere. dont let this stop you from your career and financial goals.
