Leetcode effort so worth it

Did not have much coding experience before. Since last year I was at a TC 120k job where I felt so depressed. I started to grind leetcode everyday (almost) and finally got offer from Google and Facebook. Now at TC 300k. I know this doesn't correlate with how good I am with coding, but I just want to tell folks here that if you are stuck in a shithole, or at the lowest of your life, change yourself if you cannot change the world around you.

This is very encouraging . I am in the same boat. Low Tc and low confidence. I am from non Cs background and wanted to know how did you take the journey, what resources did you use and how much time did it take for you to do the leetcode to a level where u became confident

The journey started with finding my wife was prego and an FB recruiter contacted me a week later. Felt the urgency this motivation. I started with doing leetcode "explore". That was a pretty helpful feature as I did all the curated problems. Overall less than 400 in the end, I'd roughly say 50% medium 30%hard and 20% easy. Quality is way more important than quantity, and don't try to memorize solution. During interviews you'll find that same problem with different requirements or situation, so your accepted leetcode solution is not valid anymore. Always revisit important concepts and make sure you understand every bit of your solution as to why you did it that way. Always summarize the problems youve tackled. Hope this helps!

I did the same. I can confirm on this

Me, too. Now, I'm leeting again to get an even better job.

Mind sharing your leetcode statistics? How much time in average does it take for you to solve an easy, medium and hard question on Leetcode?

I'll do so when I have a chance later. On average, for a new med problem I ve never seen, 45-50min would be a good day for me. I ve seen people on leetcode post live video of them solving a 4problem contest in 30min. I'm not even close to that.

I attended weekly leetcode contest on Sat and was shocked that people who ranked top 100 are able to code up the medium question bug free in 10 minutes and hard question in 30 minutes. They are like robots.

Grats buddy. How many did u solve and what’s the difficulty breakdown?

Gusto Fjvkooybn Nov 9, 2018

Some hards are very easy IMO. On the other hands there have been mediums which really stump me

Starting with leetcode . Able to do 4 mediums a day along with my job. Don’t know if that’s good. I probably have 2 months before I start to apply so probably I would have solved 240 questions Any advise?

Microsoft ++ Nov 9, 2018

Good enough. Quality is more important than quantity. Just make sure you check the solution after your code is passed and make sure you learn the most optimized solution. Also make sure the code you write is neat and has good readability.

I’m in the same boat but doing 3 on weekdays. Maybe I should strive for 4! Anyway I’ve found it helpful to try coming up with multiple solutions to problems (eg recursive and iterative) and to briefly analyze the trade offs

Gratz, now you can be depressed somewhere else!

I'll be joining FB. Hope it's not that depressing!
