LinkedIn used to be one of the most sought after employers until the stock crash, followed by a miraculous recovery with the MSFT buyout. Is it a good idea to join now? Things I am concerned about: Possible layoff after merger is complete. Capped upside now that its acquired. Package won't be as great as before. Really would love to hear what folks think.
Just search people where current company is LinkedIn and past company is Uber.
That may not actually surface everyone. You don't get every single person in your search results depending on privacy settings and connections.
I think it's still a great place to work. We're hiring even more senior engineers, and now that the buzz has died down and had time to process everything I am confident about things post-acquisition. If you're looking to join, try soon because we don't know how offers will change post-acquisition.
One of those places that may be a great place to work but is so shamelessly unethical in how it exploits dark patterns that I would never choose to work there for any reason but the money. I assume most people work there because of the money and work culture not because they are excited about the product itself.
fwiw all of the leadership that encouraged this kind of implementation for short-term metrics are no longer at the company. Our current executive leadership, and Jeff who now heads product is working hard to undo all of those negative aspects that helped us grow in the past. Our long-term roadmap is actually very exciting, and the acquisition with MSFT should help with that, especially since we no longer have to be accountable for short-term expectations of Wall Street
A lot of L people came to U. Not otherwise.
It's probably fine. Most common talent flow was yahoo -> Linkedin -> uber though. What makes you want to leave uber ?
Indeed a lot of l people are from y
I'd rather join F or G
Why would you want to leave Uber for LinkedIn? LinkedIn is just a blah story now while the Uber story is still interesting.
Thanks for all the replies but doesn't seem like anybody has talked to any of the three points I brought up. I don't think it's a secret and Uber is a very crappy place to work, so that's why I am exploring opportunities elsewhere.
Those are hard questions. People who know the answers probably wouldn't talk about it here
What I do know OP, if you are in eng you have nothing to worry about, but if you are thinking of making the move do it soon while we still have generous offers because no one knows how offers will be affected post-acquisition
The acquisition is close till end of year. Don't expect to see all merge effects till then.
I have a friend who will be joining LinkedIn even though he got a Uber offer. I was blown away by LinkedIn RSUs, just Wow. Never thought LinkedIn is that good with offers.
Uber -> LinkedIn is a strange move. From LinkedIn it looks like only one Eng has ever made that move, and that person worked at LinkedIn before Uber.
How do you see that on LinkedIn? You do touch on a good point, which is that coming from Uber, I feel like I need to come up with some good reasons for why I am looking to leave when the truth is that it's an unhealthy place to work.
