Long post: Referrals - save me ☠️

I've been working at this company as a "software engineer" for my first job after graduating from university a year ago. After my first day I knew something was wrong when I was assigned seating in a cramped corner of what looked like a beer pong table (no space for monitor or keyboard). I was assigned to do production support and hardly any time spent writing code...or even looking at code. Since then I've moved locations and changed job responsibilities but the fact remains that I had to get out (still no coding). The open office combined with the team culture constantly stress me out. On days when I can leave at 5pm, I study leetcode after work. Currently, I have 300+ solved. I've been to an onsite at a faang before but was not extended an offer. I'm confident that with more interviews I will be able to escape. I'd be thankful for any help at all but I am targeting tech companies because those are the interviews I've studied for. Thanks for reading.

Regardless of the situation, you should identify and learn from a mentor.

Thanks, however my work is very proprietary to this specific team at my company so I feel like learning more is not benefiting my career as it could.

That shouldn't be an issue, the whole idea of being an engineer is to build solution to problems, and there're not too many categories of problems out there. You can definitely apply what you learn elsewhere. Having a mentor will save you so much time and unnecessary experiments in your career path. A great mentor will share with you the lessons from their own failures. Learning from someone else's failures is the way to go (occasionally you'll have to learn from your own failures)

I got hired as a software engineer but my actual role is not developing software.
