My manager got a low score on one of the categories and seems to indicate that it was me. I’m pretty sure I did not give that low score. Is MS poll really anonymous ? What can managers see ? Why do they insist we complete this and then we and or managers are punished for it. I’m afraid this will impact my role, rewards etc.
The can see numbers by level and narrow down the odds a lot. I know one of our two L63s is the one who marked several things low. Not which one but I can guess...
Your team must be large. I have 10 and can't see level info.
So the results are by level ? That’s odd because we do have a diverse group by level and then people can be identified
I bet at some level someone has the privs to make it stop being anonymous, but likely above your managers pay grade and it has to be for a good reason (violence or other equally fucked up shit). I imagine that it is in the company's best interest to get candid feedback from their employees.
I believe it's "confidential", not anonymous.
Its not "truly anonymous" because if someone wrote that they want to harm someone at the office, the right people can find out who wrote it. But in all other cases its anonymous
Let them know that it’s an inappropriate line of questioning.
Managers see aggregate scores in terms of percentage good/medium/bad, as long as they have at least 5 responses for a given question. Otherwise they only see whatever the M2 would share. Your manager should have shared a presentation of poll results with the team; we don't see anything other than what's in that PowerPoint. MS also has a no retaliation policy so if you feel like you're getting punished based on what you did (or didn't) put in mspoll then bring it up with HR.
Don't be naïve. They're confidential not anonymous, results are sent with your name. Results have different aggregation levels, by aggregating data in a small scope, they'll be able to identify who gave what comments. And under some circumstances, results can be exposed to managers with all the names. Managers just don't bother to do that, because most of them get avg results, many praises few bad feedbacks. They know low performers tend to give bad results. They just didn't bother to ask for the names. So from your experience, what we can know is that, you're the low performer in your manager's mind for sure. Do you really think MS Poll is that powerful to make a better work place? Microsoft knows it's compensation is very low in the industry, why does it still keep it low? Things like MS poll are quite superficial. MS is good at branding itself as a good work place, the fact is worse than what it has branded. This is one of the tools to achieve that branding image without giving out too much money.

They are guessing. Managers cannot see names or other identifying information.
Can they match the written comments to the numbers? Written comments can be telling
No they can't
