I assume many of you have the new MacBooks with butterfly keyboards that were introduced in 2016. How has your experience been? All the press on the sticky and unresponsive keys is worrying when you have to drop $1500+ on a laptop. My PC died and I am looking to move to Mac finally. Is the hype overblown?
There have been many reports of issues with the new kbs in the MacBook Pros. I talked to one of the senior managers here in charge of researching and developing software internally on all company machines and he said our MBP lb fail rates numbers were relatively low. Still gotta carry dongles on dongles though sigh
I have both the 2015 MBP and the brand new 2017 touch bar version. At first I preferred the softer keyboard in the old version. The butterfly keyboard just didn’t feel as good and was more clicky and loud. However now I love the butterfly keyboard. I do keep my MBP clean because of the risk of dust messing up the keyboard. But otherwise I’ve had zero problems with it. Ironically I had to replace the keyboard on the older model last year because of a faulty track pad. They had to replace the entire base + battery. Cost around $300.
I bought an external keyboard after about 2 months of trying adapt to the one built in. Keys kept sticking and not having the F keys or an Escape key is almost as annoying as not having a headphone jack on my phone. The Apple ecosystem feels like a weird torture experiment now more than ever.
Had the 2017 MBP at the last job and had issues with the force touch becoming softer, but no issues with the keyboard, even after taking it apart to make visually dvorak I actually grew to like the new style. It felt like i was pressing keys, vs just pushing on mush keys like the previous gen MBP.

I like the old style keys. Heard that Apple is going to launch MacBooks with customizable keyboard style options. Waiting for them. Hopefully this Fall
wish it would include keyboard layouts
