Hey Everyone! There’s someone I used to go to school wayyyy back in the day who works at a company that has an open position that I really want. Any suggestion on how I should reach out to her? She’s the only person in my network that works there and I don’t want to come across too transactional. Any advice is welcomed :) Thanks! UPDATE! Thanks for all the great feedback everyone. I ended up messaging her and she responded fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the referral has to happen before you apply and I had just applied smh. It was for #snap #snapchat.
don’t stress too much or overthink it. person will either be happy to help or not. so just reach out and find out. good luck!
Just go for it. If not, ask for referral here instead.
Yeah, what company is it? Maybe someone on here can help and you won’t have the problem anymore
Reach out warmly wishing them well. Lead in with that then: I saw that you work at xyz and I was curious to learn about your experience there. I came across this role that I want to pursue so I’m trying to learn more about that and the company. If they work within same/similar role/team ask them about the team/role if not ask if they know anyone they’d be willing to connect you with someone who is.
Just say Hi and state want to be referred for this position can you please help. Referrals also benefit the one who is referring hence it’s already transactional
This.. there is a reason referrals have bonus attached to it.. to incentivize referrals..unless you both were sour, there is no reason they won’t at least reply.. people refer random folks all the time as a favor, this is a person with whom you atleast have a connection.. P.S this is what LI is for. It’s not a dating site that you have to overthink..
