Meta hiring like crazy?

I am seeing people either preparing or sharing their interview experience left and right nowadays, specifically for Meta. What's going on? I'm wondering if that means either of the two: a) they really over fired last year and are now scrambling to get any work completed b) they are hiring again to fire them again in a short amount of time. Maybe so they won't have to fire their existing team members? C) other

The interviews are for full time positions though. But I will bite the lower TC case, good call

Could be. A student in my former grad program recently held a role that I interviewed for. He quit to attend the program. I saw the role open up as a 12-month contract. Not my dream role, but certainly seemed like it could be a path to it (or a similar role at another company). The role was pushed so hard; everybody in the field has messages for it. I asked the student what his technical interview was like and he said it was quite easy. Just basic SQL. Given that I've seen people here mention that contract role interviews are supposed to be even easier, I just brushed up on the basics. I did check out some sites like DataLemur, but based on what the former Meta employee said, I didn't think it would be necessary. I completely bombed it. The hiring manager asked for advanced SQL scripts and I just froze. The good/bad news is that apparently everyone else sucked too as the recruiter said the role was being cancelled for now and would be re-posted in the future with a more accurate job description to align with the hiring manager's expectations. I'd want to try again now that I know what to expect, but it was easily the worst interview of my life 🤐

Hire at peak and play hunger gamer to fire the bottom 10%. Rinse repeat.

Its Meta, their turnover is pretty high regardless.

Pokémon rusemane OP Jan 29

That should totally be factored in, for sure. But if we're considering Meta turnover being high at all times regardless of the circumstances, we probably can't really say it's the major reason for why hiring is going like crazy now compared to, say, last year for example.

Meta hires according to their stock. This month, stock is up. In the next few months, better pray that stock keep going up metamates…

you lay off from departments that aren’t doing so well. for example from redundant products like reality labs, and you hire for whatever is the hot shit of the season, like ai

Ironic, given the company name.

Activision Blizzard Vjxisow Jan 29

i did a ton of the laying off back in the days. random names on a spreadsheet. had brief convos with people to gauge how smart they were and canned all the idiots that were coasting adding no value. we did give bonuses to better performing people though
