I’m not exaggerating. Everybody in meta has a plan for his/her career path. Now, without any planning, they get a hit on the head. This is traumatic experience for most people. Meta, if you can’t take care of the employees you have, don’t over hire. This lowers the entire company morale for you as well, Meta. #layoff
Most of them are prepared and knew this from Jan
They probably got a nice severance package tho
The increase in headcount was insane. How can their management overlook this? Just saying “I’m responsible for this” won’t cut. 11000 people out of job in single day is no joke.
Tbf, the entire industry overlooked this somehow
Nobody overlooked it. Businesses are generally eager to grow as much as they can while the market is good, lay off when it's not, and hope that the gains outweigh the losses. It's still hard to fire so many people...but not hard enough that they won't do it again next time
I’m sorry for all those impacted and wish they get jobs sooner But this is across the board not just meta’s fault most companies that grew exponentially last 2 yrs are laying off But this is the worst to date. People will find opportunities this is not the end of road for anyone, take time off prepare well and use the meta background and skills to land a better job
7% of Meta was on PIP. So this is their own fault. The other 3% are being pulled from redundancy. People need to get their shit together and stop complaining.
Not true. It’s probably a boost to most career paths because they’ll be starting somewhere new at a higher level. Changing employers is a very good way to accelerate your career path. These folks are getting paid for 4-6 months to job search. Most will find something sooner and be in a better place career wise in a few years. Some will start or join startups and hit it big. Change can be hard sometimes but this is not a career path killer if you are laid off!
Would have been true if most companies having good career paths wouldn’t have frozen hiring
There are still far more job openings than people in the tech world. Expand your mind about what a career path means. It isn’t always a straight line
