For all financially illiterate people who don't understand the abc of valuations, watch the video on this page. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/26/facebook-parent-meta-earnings-q3-2022.html Brownwin lays it out clearly. The opportunity for Metaverse is so far away that the returns will be heavily discounted to today and any valuation doesn't makes sense. Basically the risk/reward to hold Meta stock as a growth stock is not there anymore. Anyone who is hoping that Meta is going back to the prior levels doesn't understand how valuations and discounting works. For Meta to recover to that level, it needs to reverse the ad bleed, reduce investment into RL, make Metaverse a reality in 5yrs instead of 10 and have the environment of super low interest rates again (so that the discount rate) goes down and valuation goes up. Edit: Lots of comments. Some nice discussions and as usual lots of bashing from people who don't understand anything about finance. End of the day, it is our own thinking and analysis that leads to our decision making. Make your own decisions. Whether you are an investor or employee or short Meta. Your decision and your gains/losses. #meta #facebook

Well this is embarrassing
Is someone going to tell him?
But they added LEGS to those avatars 🤡
This was a gamechanger though.
Hell yeah.
Non of the stocks going back to previous highs for years
If Meta makes the Metaverse a real thing then the current valuations are a steal. They'd emerge as the global leader in the new paradigm of devices and operating systems similar to how the iPhone turned Apple into what it is today but with a larger moat. Likely become the most valuable company on the planet. Or Zuck will fail and Meta is finished. Buy accordingly. Zuckerberg is a great operator but his ethics are questionable at best and he's lost most of the goodwill and trust from the public that would be needed for major buy in to something as personal as a hybrid digital life.
So you say meta will see 2$ per share before going back to Trillion?
1. That is a big if 2. Also the further away that opportunity is, the less valuable it is. Zuck acknowledged at Meta Connect that it will take 10+ yrs (which might still be v optimistic) So the street is going to heavily discount the cash flows from RL.
Not just for years, it’s forever
I don't think even public2 expects a $200 value now.
What's with that guy? Always so bullish the company. No one can be that positive all the time right?
This gross underestimation. Meta is still minting money and core business is doing just fine. Revenue growth will be back when ad dollars are back. I see Meta winning the battle against Tiktok in next 3-5 yrs. Investing in Meta at these prices is good in longterm imo. Ofcourse, this depends on Meta pulling off AR/VR while keeping core business strong for next few yrs. Personally, I find this metaverse thing to have limited applications in real life apart from gaming. Greater opportunity lies in computing overlaid on reality. No reason why FB can't be a major player there.
No one uses Facebook. Instagram is fading and only WhatsApp is its saving grace. VR/AR is a fad. It keeps coming up every decade and is equally as disappointing.
As I said above, you don't understand how valuations and discounting works. I am sure you think you are smarter than wall street and the professional who make the stock market work everyday and you will be better off investing in Meta stock.
They should’ve used all this cash to buy Roblox and maybe a FinTech or something. Lateral expansion towards ubiquitous or established products/markets is good, a narrow (and costly) pivot to the obscure was not a good call. Especially when you’re (er, were) one of the more valuable companies in the world. Damn shame, Mark
They think they are smarter than everyone else. They kept saying we will replace Oracle DB, write our own, etc.. I am like sure, you’ll spend billions of dollars than would probably be spent somewhere else with better ROI
Meta can’t buy shit since last many years. Even giphy acquisition wasn’t approved.
Party is over
Says coursera 🤣
