Quick update! I spoke to my recruiter this morning and ngl, it was brutal. They're so well versed with what they say and how they pressure you into telling them information. Anyway, I got my offer bumped up to the following: Base: 182k RSUs: 100k Bonus: 15% Sign on: Nope! Old TC: 277.7k New TC: 309.3k 🥂 ------------------------------ Interviewed at Meta 6 weeks ago and got around the team match limbo (finally!) last week. I have a verbal offer and I need advice. Background: Software engineer at John Deere (machine learning + data engineering). YoE: 4+ TC: 🥜 Interviewed for E4 SWE, ML at Meta at Menlo Park, CA. Offer breakdown: Base: 173k RSUs: 78k per year Bonus: 15% No sign on bonus and feels like a very low balled offer for sure. Definitely going to negotiate but the question I'm battling is how much to ask for. I have one other offer from a fintech company (MLE) but the offer is weak as no RSUs are offered.. Currently interviewing with other FAANG and non-FAANG companies but I feel the team is a good match and the work seems really interesting to me. I feel this can be a good counter: Base: 188k RSUs: 100k Bonus: 15% Sign on bonus: 45k Have to answer within 5 days. Any advice is welcome. #meta #swe #machinelearningengineer #faang #tech #offer Edit: According to levels.fyi, for YoE range of 3-5, the average base pay is 183k and RSUs are about 100k. I am interviewing with Apple at final stages, how can I leverage that? Which counter offer makes more sense?
Have to give your location to get any accurate estimation - bands are different in different places. I will say that the base you're pushing for is very high, I doubt you will get that. Stock is the easiest thing to push for, compensate the push there
Updated the location. It's Menlo Park, CA. Pushing stocks is not that great for the current value of stocks as it's pretty high already. Joining at a bad time in that sense. What base push makes sense? 173k feels very low compared to what I have seen on Levels.fyi
Very low? Are you serious? No other company would pay this much for 4 yoe Btw what is john deere?
It's what feed you
...and here I am with $300k TC with over 20 yoe as a VP Eng at a series B. Take the offer and be happy. Perform well and enjoy the $$$.
Careful with how much you push, there is a backlog of candidates.
I already have an offer, I'm negotiating but ultimately I'll take the offer. I just can't accept the first low ball offer.
I understand that the money is good but I can't compare it to what I get right now, I have to maximize my opportunity and compare it to what Meta generally offers. This first offer is definitely a low ball and bottom band of the pay scale. I need to get to the middle of the band at least.
If RSU is per year, Its not too bad overall For your years of exp
Push with RSU and sign on, you will get it.. but not base, never push base
Why not base
Firstly: Every level has a range for base.. hiring manager, recruiters etc want to keep a new hire at the bottom to mid range of base so for a couple of years atleast during performance review, they are able to give you a decent hike in base if you have performed well. Secondly: RSUs in most cases are not sold immediately by most employees on vest, hence it’s good for the company to give RSU as compared to cash since it will add to number of people holding the stock.
Just take the offer. Hundreds right behind you willing to jump aboard.
So ultimately I do plan to take an offer but this is the first offer they gave me. Can't accept the low ball offer. Also based on the data on Levels.fyi, they've been giving people base around 185k on an average for 3-5 YoE. Hence I intend to push on base.
Low ball. Also since when do lawnmowers need ml?
Op how did you prepare for system design? Can I dm
Sure. DM me.
Grats awesome you got in anyway, which location?
Thank you. Updated the location. It's Menlo Park, CA.
Are RSUs 78k per year (312k total over 4 years) or 78k over 4 years?
That's per year.
