Meta pre-hire - need a facebook account

Apparently I need a facebook account to onboard Meta? No way Im using my personal FB account, which I should've nuked long time ago. Time to create a second account in a social media where my existing account was already one too many. Happy new year homies TC 310 YOE 5

Think of it as another way of a background check based on your FB profile.

Meta zuccedhard Dec 27, 2021

Yes, you need an FB account as all our internal systems require you to verify yourself. Also, if you are that concerned, just lock your profile

The personal side can be completely blocked off from the work side, right? Does the profile photo have to be the same?

Meta zuccedhard Dec 27, 2021

You can change it, but 95%+ have it linked.

I decided to create a new account for onboarding. I don't want to mix work and personal life, not knowing what this could mean in the future

I just crated a new one even just for interviewing. Way too much account history on my old one anyways and could use a restart.

Is this documented in any emails, onboarding documents etc. ?

Amazon Dr Trash Dec 27, 2021

Yes. You can't proceed with the pre-hire checklist without a FB account

SAP QTsA63 Dec 27, 2021

Why would it matter wether you use an or new account.. you don’t seem to care enough to keep the old one anyways. Besides if meta needed your data, I doubt it needs to rely on an unused fb account :P

You are specifically asked not to use a new account! It is not used to track you. Seriously, Facebook has better things to do and I mean it. It is used internally to link your accounts. As for background check, social media review is required for clearance specific jobs like the one I had at Citi. People just get touchy because of an information that is already public and is probably already queried multiple times every hour by marketing software you don’t even know about. This is nothing serious. If you have reservations about your Facebook account that you think is damaging, you already have other problems beyond work.

Democracy today is fucked, and we are constantly in fear of how we are being perceived by others and who we are offending and when we might lose out job due to the things we say, the things others say that we like, or the people we follow. So it makes sense to be scared especially when your livelihood is at risk and not just your first amendment

Citibank sea_plane Dec 27, 2021

Understood. But sincerely, Facebook really doesn’t care. You can actually block your posts from showing up on your linked accounts. You have control over that.

Meta zuckzilla Dec 27, 2021

It won’t be used in any way except initial internal profile creation (takes the photo, adds a link to your Facebook profile, and maybe a few other things that can be changed). Nobody wants to use your data, it’s for identity management and compliance with GDPR, CCPA, etc. I don’t remember if you can have multiple accounts per internal policies again for compliance reason.

Amazon Dr Trash Dec 27, 2021

About multiple accounts, I might want to delete my current fb account at some point in the future. I don't want my work to be the reason why I can't delete my personal account. So I went ahead and created a new account for work

Meta zuckzilla Dec 27, 2021

It sounds like you are trying to explain your reasoning to me when I don’t have skin in the game. In your contract there are the rules that you should get familiar with. For regulations, you can request employers to delete or provide all information about you. How they are going to do it if you have multiple accounts? Do you think company would want to get fined just because you don’t feel like it? Per Facebook ToS you are not allowed to have multiple accounts, at any point one of the accounts might be deleted. Another big thing is that we are forced to use alpha version of all apps, it’s a critical signal to release stable apps. If we were allowed to just create separate accounts we wouldn’t be able to release our apps safely. In any case, if you don’t want to link the old account then just delete it and create a new one. If that doesn’t work, you are not forced to accept the offer.
