I got an offer for MSFT for a remote job. Senior software engineer: $160k base $30k sign on $160k RSUs paying equally over four years $0-30k merit bonus. Current TC 0. Also interviewing with other tier 2 company, but it could be weeks before an offer is made. On call every six weeks. What would you advise on negotiating a better offer? Thanks
Accept
On call every 6 weeks Jesus fuck. Fuck that no
Accept
What level 63 or 64 ?
IC4 Did not specify 63 or 64.
Most likely it’s 63, they want you to climb to 64 and then 65 which takes good few years
On call every 6 weeks kinda sucks but maybe your product is stable and your rotation won’t be that bad Take the job
Negotiate up to 195K base and one of [50K bonus or 220K RSU’s]. Senior SWE does 85% of work at MSFT. They will say yes.
Frontend or Backend?
Backend
On call could get brutal depending on your org. If you're in Azure compute/storage/networking that's going to be pretty intense. You should still accept and keep interviewing for something better, just my 2 cents. Also see if you can tack on an additional second year sign on bonus.
Can confirm azure on calls are some of the most brutal. I never realized how bad sleep deprivation was for health. Feels like it did permanent damage to me. Never again.
if (230000 > 0) { acceptOffer() }
Else if no_other_offers { acceptOffer() }
What is 230k ? I think the 160 RSU is per year
