I am hearing that Microsoft is competing with the top paymasters these days for the right talent. How true is this?
Only for principal+ levels.
A friend of mine just got in as a principal sde last month@ 260k tc => entry L6 pay. Not there yet
Why did he take that money?
260k tc? For principal? Is this a joke?
Great joke, bro!
That is normal for L65, usually about 190k salary + 20% bonus + ~$38K RSU (over 4 yrs). The max possible bonus is 40% and RSU is $72k...this is for folks who r the top 5%.
are you kidding me? you mean $38K RSU (4 years) for L65? L61 is getting $200K RSUs nowadays.
Yes..look at HRweb ..used to have a of these data. To help compete they r giving SPSA..but that is not guaranteed. Also sign on is different ..this is after year 2 ..what u will get
You do not make 260k as a new grad at Microsoft.
My new grad offer was $1.5m base
For L66, the bonus range is same , and stock is avg 72k and max is 2x of that (again for top 5%).
MSFT model is to get u fixated on concept of level, promotion, pay 65th percentile..great benefits. If u really want to get more $$ u have to get out , but 10-20% of Principal level will do it..so MSFT is ok with that, they still come out way ahead, they have a strong bench. And for really top folks, they give top $. So all good
+1 I used to be at msft for a very long time and got too comfortable, took a big push to get out. Glad I did it, I’m able to explore a lot of new tech that I didn’t get a chance to do at msft. Bottom line - benefits is top notch, pay is meh. Comp/benefits aside, Microsoft is a great company to work for!
How do you pay 65th percentile to everyone?
L64, 300k+ offer
I got a 300k+ offer for L64 too, but ended up with Google
What’s Paymaster? A spin-off of Ticketmaster targeted at small and medium enterprise Payroll departments? Wait this is genius. I’m starting this. DM to join the next unicorn.
Needs big data and ML
