Hi Blind community, I am looking to pivot into MC with 1 YOE in a FinTech consulting/client service position. My educational background is in liberal arts and research, and I have some hard technical skills (Java, C++, Python, R). Any advice from anyone who made the pivot early in their careers? What is the best way to make the move to a decent firm? YOE: 1 yr TC: 115k #finance #consulting #fintech
Nice
from what you listed here, you’re not even close to the top 3 consulting firms yet unless you went to an elite college.
Don’t do it. You’ll make some decent money, but the stress, politics, lack of support will burn you out. If you chose to go tis route, get as much money as you can and have your exit strategy planned. Good luck.
What do you mean politics and lack of support? I know consultants work long hours and travel frequently... I'm considering MBA rn, so just curious ...
Indeed - don't do it. MC is bullshit. Been there, done that, and NEVER AGAIN
Are you currently with an IT services firm, a bit more details around what you did 1yr would be good to know… A masters with an internship is the easiest way out… Alternate approach would be to join a niche smaller consulting firm and then jump Good luck !
I actually have a question for you in terms of how did you manage to get into fintech w/ liberal arts background? Did you do a Bootcamp or self taught?
I have the same question. I also recommend joining a smaller consulting firm first, get an MBA, then apply to the big 4 and you will get paid a lot
What’s the fourth? Top three have been Bain, BCG, and McKinsey for decades.

Your current TC is more than some of the analyst positions in consulting with your yoe. If you want to screw your WLB than you are thinking right but if you are just looking for more tc than try getting into tech unicorn which might be ready to offer decent amount of equity.
No offense but what qualifies a liberal arts degree holder with 1 YOE as a consultant? Whats your expertise within management?
You do realize that consultants with less than 3 YOE don’t really bring much to the table besides faking it until you make it? Power point jockeys? Stop being condescending. Consulting doesn’t require any skill or qualification to break into.
I met some seniors from BCG and they knew their chit, some 3 yr OE i doubt it
You make more with 1YOE than what you would make at any management consulting firm, MBB included. Management consultants are trying to get into Tech so you are already ahead. Don’t jump.

It sounds like you don't have any MC experience, so perhaps look at working towards an MBA in the next few years once you have more consulting experience.
This makes sense
