Reasons: - No tax - TC would be higher than the US - Better infrastructure - Low or no crime - Good food maybe - just by the sheer variety The US: - There's TC but the TC isn't going far and your taxes are wasted on providing you nothing in return. - Healthcare is a joke here. Reform is going to be screamed at so nothing's going to change ever. - The housing market is going to crash again given Blackrock is f_cking it up and scooping up shit. - Crime has increased in major cities. - Gun violence in the US is just plain nuts. Don't want kids to have shooter drills. Has anyone done this? What are you experiences in the UAE? #uae #dubai #us #move #career TC: peanuts
Great decision I lived there from 2004-2018 and loved it. Where are you thinking of living in Dubai? Who will you be working for? Are you gonna be in Dubai Internet City? Also it is not expensive if you live there but it’s expensive to be there as a tourist.
Scouting for opportunities there. I've seen more interest in the area of late. The Middle East and Asia will be growing for a while so thinking of a longer-term move.
Check what they are offering, I do think too companies here do pay more but there is no taxes. In 2008 I had a TC of 145k, no taxes (was paid in AED) also I received approximately $50k for a housing stipend per year and another $1000 monthly for a car stipend (Drove a very nice car). Life was great for me there. When I left in 2018 TC was around $220k. You are right, there is no crime there at all. Yes things happen but no heinous murders or people getting robbed at all. You will love it! I’m sure they may pay more now and remember no taxes. Plus you get like 40+ paid days off a year.
Do it, report back what you find.
I would say if you can't make it top top US companies then yeah. Otherwise the money is still way better here.
Taxes will cut the advantage out of being here. I get the point you are making. Career growth is great here. But, I don't want to be stuck in the rat race either.
Believe me taxes don't cut for the highest percentile. My TC is 500k. Married. Net net I keep 2x more than in Dubai. Easily. Tell me who would pay 400K USd net in dubai Staying for a while then checkoutin
The legal system is crap. You are assumed guilty until proven innocent. You can also disappear if you piss off the wrong people with a tweet or two
Good thing I'm not on Twitter. But, yeah that could happen in the US too. You could offend anyone these days.
You still have freedom of speech in the US. The gov cannot arrest you for what you say. If you are talking about censorship by private parties thats a different issue
It's a desert and not suitable for human life whatever oil money wants you to think. Your choice if you want to go live in a desert.
You do realize UAE doesn't rely as much on oil. More on tourism. Living in the US - hurricanes, wildfires, and drought isn't exactly a breeze either.
Doesn't change the fact that it is a desert. You have to be really desperate to go live in one.
Besides the tax bit, Australia ticks all the other boxes.
The pay might be lesser in Australia though and the tech sector less prominent.
TC peanuts and moving?
stock down?
Are you us citizen?
I went there for a little vacation over the summer. There aren't very many western people, most of the people there are from developing countries who go there for opportunities and mostly live among their own nationalities. You might have a hard social life there. Also it is a surveillance state, when they check your passport on entry they take a picture of you, and they have cameras all over the country to keep track of everyone in order to "prevent crime". Some positives is that it was pretty cheap, things like food, rent, clothes, etc are inexpensive compared to US, and that it was very clean, I didn't see any trash in the streets or sidewalks.
Dubai is expensive as shit wtf. Also the traffic is horrible. The weather is no joke. Tons of forums out there about living in Dubai as an American so I’d definitely check that.
Have you lived there or speaking from some anecdotal experience?
