In a tight spot here. Out of tons of applications and a couple of interviews, I got offers from these companies and I need help making a decision. Ordinarily it would be Google without a second thought, but I heard about ongoing Google layoffs. How true is that? YoE - 16yrs Google, L6 - 504k Airbnb, L6 - 479k Netflix - 500k These aren’t initial offers. I’ve negotiated with the other offers on the table already. Current TC - 348k update: kinda surprised at the poll results so far nb: I don't really have notes I can share, sorry. Maybe I'll try to see what I can put together. For each of them though, I did a lot of searching about for resources. General reading up and checking out every free resource I could, but when it came to practice, I needed more company specific resources. Someone recommended this question bank on product alliance called Deep dive. It was a major resource for final prep for Airbnb and Netflix. Then for Google, I took a chance and on their flagship course, which paid off. When I got to a place I was confident enough at, I mocked repeatedly with a few Sr PMs I found on Blind.
Just take the 500k cash at Netflix and buy c3 AI calls.
😂😂 atm, Netflix is winning by a heavy margin... juuuust might
Lol c3 ai calls? really? Why upwork?
I’d do Google if it’s a non GCP role
I’d run with Google depending on the team only because longterm it’d be more interesting than either Netflix or Airbnb
Linked in L6 TC is <400k?
Most likely l5
L6 is 650k. OP probably SPM who cliffed.
l6 with 16 yoe? Did you switch to Pm from something else? Or maybe it’s more senior than I thought
L6 at a lot of companies is like an L7, just sub director. Some companies an L6 is like an L5 at google (e.g. Amazon)
At large companies, it’s common for a lot of people to reach and stay at L5 even with 20-30 yoe. Your level doesn’t goes up just with tenure but with scope, responsibility and high bp that comes with it.
SPM to L6? Damn good work my friend
Google is really team/org dependent right now so to the level you can share that would help with my vote
That's 5 at Netflix and you can easily coast.
Really? I have heard that folks works a minimum of 45-50 hours a week there… and this is true not just for eng but also for PMs.
I don’t know anything about Netflix. I’ve worked at google and Airbnb though and would take Airbnb any day. Google is chaotic and the energy is panicked. Extremely stressful environment. Management and people are really great at Airbnb from what I’ve experienced and people are way more chill
I agree with this assessment. If you prefer WLB with interesting problems to solve in a growing company that’s also a category leader, that’s Airbnb. Morale is low at Google, they are also shifting priorities and finding their footing with the shift to AI. Mature company so problems are not as interesting. I suspect you will be doing busy work. Netflix is not a category leader anymore and that market is extremely fragmented, with new entrants all the time. Definitely more interesting that Google though and better brand value IMO.
Not completely disagreeing and not being a homer so please don't think the wrong way but what is left to mature at Airbnb?
Is this a leadership role in product management?
