How is NYC for families these days,,, Any dos and donts
8 million people live here. Why did you ask a question like this with so little info on your part?
I live in Park Slope. It’s all young families here. Have lived and worked all over the world and would say there’s few better places to raise a family than here if you can afford it.
How much is your rent and how many bedrooms?
3 beds, 1600 sq feet, $3020/month
Yep, don’t.
I grew up in nyc and about to start a family here. Agreed with the Park Slope poster above. I’ve traveled all over the world and appreciate living and growing up here every day. - You’re more independent at an early age and have access to cultural and social capital - gives you a leg up in school/work/life. Better for mental health - Unlike the suburbs, you can be a parent and still have hobbies and social life since your kids don’t have to depend on you to drive them around everywhere. Better for your family, better for your relationship, better for yourself - Some great public schools and educational programs (see park slope reply above). Access to CUNY, NYU, Columbia. I took college classes in high school. All free (not private or paid) - If you buy, property taxes are very low. Average of <1% across the city, sometimes far less - Kids and you get to grow up around diversity. Food options are insanely good. You can eat cuisines from all over. Proximity to 3 major airports means air travel is cheaper than anywhere else in the country - Don’t need a car so don’t need to worry about drunk driving when your kids are older. Metrocard will take you everywhere and neighborhoods are walkable - Low drug use compared to rest of US. Overdoses and fentanyl deaths are a huge issue everywhere else in the country, especially the suburbs since there’s nothing to do. Kids don’t do hard drugs in NYC. Safer than rest of country for many many reasons https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-06-07/is-new-york-city-more-dangerous-than-rural-america https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/60624/young-adults-are-struggling-with-their-mental-health-is-more-childhood-independence-the-answer
Grew up in Brooklyn/Manhattan, in Brooklyn now
This post just convinced me to move there
Terrible place even for singles.

If you compare globally, then I can agree. Just within America? Not so much
