Hello, I’m very lucky to have gotten multiple New grad offers. The most competitive are: Akamai: ~150 remote Qualcomm ~190 in person I think the work in both of these companies is interesting, but qualcomm would probably be a little more interesting. However, I’m not sure if my work at qualcomm would be super specific and make it harder to get a SWE job in the future. I also value WLB, and i think this would be better at Akamai. I spent a summer at Amazon and saw how people worked, I would prefer to work somewhere with a less intense culture although I am Definetly willing and wanting to work hard and learn. I think there would be more growth opportunities at qualcomm. Additionally, I think being in person is probably good for me, but the commute to Qualcomm would be pretty annoying. (I’d have to get a car, maybe 50 minutes each way 2-4 times a week). Location isn’t really an issue, but having the freedom to work anywhere would be pretty cool. Hard decision, many factors. Any advice? #software #akamai #qualcomm
What location is this? If Qcom is in Colorado then hands down it's the better choice. If it's California then akamai could actually be more profitable depending on which state you plan to work remotely.
Did you cold apply or via referral?
Akamai has no career prospects
If you value WLB, you would hate Q.
What was your experience like? And which office/team?
Hmm OK, thanks! Do you think experience at Qualcomm is valued at most other big tech companies? I’m worried the work might be overly specialized
How long is the commute

I used to do 1.5 hour commutes one way. It’s not my cup of tea (but I also hate driving), and I had to move closer within a month of trying to commute that far.
