Planning on applying to MAANG/MAANG equivalent companies in the spring, and hoping to get a few interviews. Last year I applied (with an even worse resume) and got 0 interviews. Please tear apart my resume. The more brutal the more it will help. #maang #faang #meta #amazon #amzn #apple #netflix #google #bytedance #tiktok #openai #reddit #databricks #snowflake #linkedin #plaid #roblox
You have 2 YOE, so you're basically a new grad. You'll get maybe an L3/L4 interview. The resume won't matter much if you're going for those big name companies you listed.
What would be more important then? Referrals? Or just screwed in current entry level job market
Referrals are always good. I went Deloitte to MSFT and got L60 (SWE 1.5 bc MSFT does half levels) solely because I only had 2 years of experience I was explicitly told me I passed the bar for L61 :( DM me if you want to chat and have interest in doing more JMeter like stuff. I may be leaving my role soon which could open up a spot on my team
Remove the word "co-founder" and you'll get more calls. It kinda shows you worked for a startup which you owned which isn't really considered real work experience by recruiters. No one will care to lookup whether the startup still exists or not, they only care about what you did there. Apply for SWE II (mid level roles) with about 3 YOE.
I was thinking the same thing about removing cofounder. I got some bad advice to keep that in hahaha
Don’t need to hundreds of recruiters already trashed it
HTML, CSS are redundant, remove them. Moreover, they're not even programming languages.
Good point hahaha
Why computer science is B.A at Boston college
While I understand OP asked for their resume to be destroyed, it's just a shitty thing to do to shame someone else's degree
Not sure what are you talking about Boston college is a decent school While computer science being a Bachelor of Arts is the first time I hear
Good use of metrics in your most recent role, whether or not they are bullshit. Try to add realistic metrics or impact for your older roles, rather than just what you did.
Thanks will definitely do that 🙏
Don’t bloat your resume with words like ‘co-founder’ and ‘led’ when you are basically a new grad. You will interview for entry level L3/L4 and recruiters will be interested in technical skills and depth (only)
That makes sense, thank you 🙏
Start with a short summary paragraph. What kind of engineer are you? What are your main areas of expertise? What are you looking for? What motivates you? I’ve read piles of resumes and done hundreds of tech and soft skills interviews. A good, short, honest summary does stand out. In fact a really good one often makes the cut before even getting to any of the work experience details.
Do you think this is still a good idea for people applying to more entry level roles such as myself? I also think most of the time my resume will just go through ATS and not through the hands of a real person, and I’m not sure how ATS optimal a summary is. But I will definitely make a second copy with a summary for situations where I know it will land in the hands of a real person
Boring as shit. You just need half a page…
It is very boring. What would you cut? What would be examples of some “interesting” projects I could add?
