Is it still a good time to join Lyft? Signed an offer couple of weeks ago and not sure what to do now. 😥 I’ve told my managers my last day would be the end of the next week, but now I’m so terrified. I’m on a work visa (Sorry this poll is confusing, I actually wanted to ask if it’s still a good time to join Lyft, I guess a lot of ppl might have voted yes for potential layoff
I don’t see how they don’t heavily scrutinize their costs (labor being the top contributor) in light of this huge stock drop and emphasis on profitability.
That’s a good point, but the issue seems to be missing active drivers. Would layoff help?
With shrinking in active drivers, longer wait time, price goes up, riders shrink, then cut employments, team shrinks, business shrinks, then the company is basically dead. Board members and executives won’t let this happen. Cutting off employment is NOT the solutions. Unless it’s for a reasonable major reorg and some functions are deemed to be less valuable
Lyft shares just got pounded to trash, so leave asap
Do you mean leave Lyft or leave Amazon to Lyft?
Leave amzn for lyft, then start interviewing amzn for a different team. Fail your lyft probation period. Try for fb or google or amzn after recent stock drops. They are good candidates for high future TC.
Upside of joining now is that the stock is down a ton so your RSUs should be at a lower price.
I don’t even know if I’ll even be able to get my first vest if they fire me in a month or so 😅
I thought Lyft doesn't offer RSUs priced based on joining date? They switched to Stripe model of converting to stock on the day it vests
Join Lyft Get laid off Take severance Boomerang back to Amazon ??? Profit
@OP How does work visa comes into play here? Can one get severance and is there enough time to switch back again?
😭 I’m on h1b if I’m laid off, I may need to leave the states
Is the poll asking if there are potential layoffs or that it's a good time to join?
Sorry for making it ambiguous, I wanted to ask if it’s a good time for me to join. I kinda feel there will be a layoff soon 🥺
Don’t see how layoffs can help here. As soon as the stock for any company drops, blind just votes a yes on layoffs
Sorry I wanted to use the pill for if it’s still a good time to join Lyft, but a lot of you might have interpreted it as if there’s a layoff
From Finance/Wall Street standpoint -- the CEO/Executive Management report on quarterly/annual basis. They are inherently short sighted and only care about their own compensation. They will readily do mass layoffs because it will in the short term reduce costs and help shore up financials. Plus reducing costs doesn't take any innovation or skill compared to increasing revenue. In general for a public company, mgmt's actions can be summed up to Reducing Costs or Increasing Revenue. Depending on how far-sighted goals Mgmt can get away with, but most Executive management is interest of maximizing their own compensation/employment.
Welcome to the pink reality. But pink is blood
What is the sentiment like. I also recently accepted an offer with starting date in 2 weeks
To soothe you... 1) Lyft is very understaffed due to layoffs in 2020, hiring pause + attrition after that 2) When they did layoff in 2020, they spared folks who joined recently
Thank you so much!!! 🥺
How would you describe the management and culture there? Are people pretty legit or is it a toxic cesspool of egomaniacs, like some companies?
What’s Lyft’s plan to profitability?
I guess, advertising 😅

Thank you AAPL and NVDA
Just throwing this out - if you need a option in case things don’t work out at lyft, you could easily boomerang back to Amazon. If you’re leaving on good terms, you can come back to the same team as long as your manager has open roles.H1 transfer shouldn’t be an issue. But yes, there will be headwinds for Lyft.
I had a one on one with my skip last Friday and he said he would welcome me back in 2 months 😂😭 I just didn’t realize that would actually become true
