Presenting last at a conference. Is it a good or bad thing?
We are having an internal two day conference at our company (I’m not at “new” anymore, at a large firm now). One of the people I work with is giving a presentation at this conference. I noticed he was the last presentation of day 1. Is this a good or bad thing? Reason I ask is because the guy is a total jerk. Tries to act very smart and gives condescending answers. Everyone says he tries to come off as a genius but it’s all fluff. No group that works with him likes him. But he’s very political and has been able to get promoted. He’s been defensive towards me since day 1 because he was trying to take over my group’s responsibilities and they brought me in to stop that. So, it would give me great joy knowing he’s an after thought at this conference (I know, I’m petty). I’m not presenting at the conference and this will be the 3rd conference I’ve ever attended. So, that’s why I ask if being last is a good or bad thing. I think being last is bad because most people are tired and have left but of course I’m biased. Bad if you actually want engagement or have something interesting since most people will be thinking about getting to the airport. But this might be a good thing if it’s someone’s first time and they just want to get the experience and get the presenter cred in front of an audience that will probably be apathetic or half absent.
Since you hate him so much are you going to ruin it? Make a scene and walk out halfway through?

Perhaps he’s gonna get the best paper award. They want to make sure everyone stays for the best. Usually in movies the climax comes at the end. Caesar said “veni veni veni”
