I have a few friends working at Facebook. They all seem pretty happy but they all work over time.... Is this working overtime a norm at Facebook?
I heard infra is good. Can someone confirm?
Infrastructure you mean?
pretty sure he means infrared or infractions.
Zip- That's one of the smartest and the most thoughtful question I read on blind
Depends infra vs product and what group
how about facebook messenger?
Heard android messenger is a no go
Infra is good as long as you don't work on a service that has stability/growth problems. If you do - oncall can be nightmare. Product tends to be worse (but there are exceptions, as everywhere). More sense of urgency, unstable roadmaps, impatient PMs, etc. Also, infra people tend to be more experienced, older, with families, etc, so balance matters more to them. Product has more fresh grads, that are hungry to build new things, work overtime to get promoted quickly so they can that Tesla they are dreaming about, etc.
As far as my friends go, it's all work-no life
Most people I know that work overtime choose to do it because they are excited about the work
For a while I worked 20-30 hrs/week :)
That's what I heard from my friends too - but that scares me. If everyone else works over time because they wanted to/because they are excited about their work, then don't you also just have to also work overtime because all your teammates are doing it? Relevance here: considering a Fb offer...
People at Facebook love to message each other/write diffs/review diffs after hours
Totally depends on what team you are in
Which teams are the worst?
