How's the RTO situation in chip / hardware companies? #intel #micron #broadcom #avgo #qualcomm #analogdevices #texasinstruments #nvidia #apple #microchiptechnology #macom Are you back 5 days a week? Hybrid? I am going to be transitioning to doing something else in a few months, looking for remote or hybrid options, comment if you like your current situation, maybe there are some really collaborative teams where it is worthwhile going in every day but I am jaded.
About once a week.
Is this for 1:1s with the manager? Or do you actually do stuff with the rest of your team? Is your role mostly software / coding?
Nvidia ok with remote if not required by actual duties
I am curious if people who mostly work on a computer / work with data analysis etc are still being asked to go in multiple days a week. I also wonder if people who work in a lab are being asked to go in only on the days they need to do actual work in the lab or whether they are being asked to be in their cubicle in the name of fostering company culture - and how exactly companies are approaching the issue
Well we are grownups and decide whats better. If need go to a lab you go but there is no stupid policy like 3 days per week. If its needed could be 7 days a week, and if not needed this week 0 days. Mission is the boss not some inflexible number in stupid policy.
Nvidia is ok with remote Apple 3 days a week Qualcomm 4 days a week
Thanks for the details! It is a pretty slippery slope from 3 -> 4 -> 5 days a week I suspect
Yeah I think everyone will go back to 5 in the next 2 years but I guess enjoy it while we can
Broadcom never did WFH, so there is that ..
Good to know! How did they manage during summer of 2020? Did they just declare they were an essential business so everyone needed to come in??

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
It depends on your role. If you need to be hands on... Party like is 2019. If you are pure software it's optional, most of us still sit at home everyday
Haha if I had a pure software role, I would not be in a hardware company at all - do you like writing code specifically for hardware? Why not write the same kind of code for a high frequency trading firm?
@rfix - the wlb difference between tech and hft is like night and day. Just a tradeoff between money, and having a life
