Tired of the thoughts and worries about layoffs. Are there any recession proof companies these days ? I am thinking of considering opportunities at government aligned companies like Fannie Mae, Federal Reserve Banks etc. I know the pay wise it will be quite a reduction but at least no (or less) stress of layoffs. Any other companies with almost no or less layoff stress ? Tc - $300k Yoe - 15
Biden says there is no recession and the economy is booming. The layoffs are part of the booming economy. Everyone loves bidenomics.
There is no recession in Ba Sing Se
There is no recession, despite what companies say 🤣. Its just a way to downsize the company to increase shareholder profits, nothing more
Bloomberg is one of the few tech companies of their size that had had zero layoffs in last 30+ years.
You drank the kool aid didn't you?
Bloomberg is telling the truth. No layoffs, no PIPs, and hard to get fired.
Remember that all jobs are temporary. Going to another job, you'll just be trading one set of stresses for others.
So what did you trade for Roku?
Good question. I have not really thought about that. Sometimes it is just time to move on or move out of political or toxic work environment. You can not actually completely tell what the new environment of a new job is until you are there for a while.
CPG companies like Unilever, P&G
No, there are layoffs on a regular basis at Unilever, latest early last year 2022
Not true for Pepsico either
Are you ready to work about the same for half the money? That’s the question.
I estimate that at least 60% of the tech workforce inclusive me will trade 1/2 TC to go for guaranteed employment for two years now.
@new what if no other company offers you the same comp? In expected value terms P(getting laid off)*(compensation) = expected comp

Government contracting space is typically the most stable
The best recession proof company is the one you start today and make successful

Public sector forsure but if you hate office politics at Amazon it’ll prob be the same or worse since that’s the only thing that they do
True. But I think once we take “survival” out of the equation office politics should go down. So I don’t think public sector companies will have that much of office politics as compared to the current day tech where survival and backstabbing has become a culture
If people in your org are motivated by power and influence then it will forsure be just like that
