Heya Blinders! I'm planning a big move this year - packing my bags and heading to the US for a remote work adventure (think at least 2 years!). To make the most of it, I'm on the hunt for the perfect city to call my home. Here's a little about me: - 28, single, male - Canadian-Indian, born and raised in Toronto - I work remote, Senior SWE, 6 YOE, TC: 450k CAD What I'm looking for (must-haves first): - Inclusive vibes: Moving as a person of colour, a welcoming and diverse city is high on my priority list. - Budget-friendly: Reasonable COL. Wouldn't mind buying a place if I fall in love with the city - Essentials covered: Proximity to supermarkets, hospitals, you know, the lifeblood of a city. - Love connection potential: A decent dating scene would be fantastic - Being close to mountains or national parks for epic weekend adventures would be the dream! - Decent career opportunities: This might be less of problem with remote work. Hit me with your best city recommendations. I'm all ears! Thanks!
don't move anywhere. buy an upscale camper and drive throughout the US and once done. take your camper to Canada
Reno/Tahoe, Montana (Bozeman, Missoula), Colorado front range (Golden, Boulder, Fort Collins). All of those have gotten way more expensive in the past 5 years, but are still way cheaper than anything on the coasts (SF, Seattle, Portland, NYC, DC, etc).
Of those only Boulder is even remotely diverse
Lol have you been to any of them? All have universities near by. Get a clue.
Your TC is sufficient to have a comfortable lifestyle in a big city. Get a 1-or-2-bed nice apartment, not lavish, but nice. I’d suggest NYC or Miami, if you wanna make that love connection, then move to the burbs when you’re going to start a family. If you want a MCOL place that’s nice, a bit of a tech hub, Raleigh/Durham area has some good options (but horrible politics), and might lack enough diversity, but is a nice area.
What do you mean by horrible politics?
Clearly they have never been to Raleigh/Durham if they think it lacks diversity. Also, I know it’s a crazy thought, but some people might like NC politics.
Austin seems to be where all the cool kids are moving these days. Great climate except summers. Lots of activity. Good dating scene. MCOL. Think of it like Montreal with Texas vibes.
He can go back to Toronto in the summers
OP: “being close to mountains..”. Every reply but mine, zero mountains or national parks within driving range.
