Remote Gap-Year WFH Opportunities (International)

Hello, Please help me out with an important decision. It's a bit of a complex situation but I could really use some advice. I'm currently on a gap semester and have 2 options: 1) Apply for gap-year internships that start immediately 2) Apply for Summer '21 internships 'Brief' context: I'm an international student in the US, in a Master's program, interested in Robotics, comfortable with Python & C++. Just completed a summer internship at Nvidia. I took a leave for Fall '20 and came back to my home country. While there are internships back home as well, I'd rather do one remotely in the US and get to know the potential projects, the work culture and team that I would want a job in after graduation. My university has a career fair next week and I'm trying to figure out what I should aim for, from those 2 options. I could either go back to university in Jan (Spring '21) and then do a summer internship. Or I could continue with my leave in the Spring and join next Fall, in which case I would want to start a gap-year internship or a job right away. However, I don't think I can accurately make this decision of resuming study before November due to lots of uncertainties and factors beyond my control. If I get a good gap-year internship, I might just prefer going back in Fall '21. Do/can companies hire year-round interns who work remotely from another country? How tough is it to get such roles? I mostly see 'US, Remote' on the remote internships I find online. Is it better to go through the safer and normal hiring pipeline for summer internship or does it make sense to try out the gap-year option? Thank you for reading this and I would love advice on this. #remotework #wfh #internships #jobs #us #nvidia #robotics #softwareengineer
