I had an l4 offer reinstated in July which I accepted but pushed start date to January. Reason being, I accepted an l3 Google offer and rejected a FB l4 offer a year ago. I had a change of heart and reached out and they reinstated it. But I just recently got promoted at Google and the pay matches FB offer with Google being slightly higher now by 5k. The sign on bonus is the only FB comp benefit at 75k. I am thinking of reneging as I find Google to be the stronger company. The only problem is the last time I verbally accepted the offer for fb but reneged. Now I am about to renege a signed offer. Plus it is the same recruiter that I did this too. And this recruiter has been so kind from the beginning and my experience interviewing with fb was so much better than with Google. But I still struggle to choose FB. I fear I will be blacklisted if I renege a second time. I had initially asked to interview at L5 but that request was rejected. I don’t want to come at the same level from Google to Fb and the same pay, excluding sign on. What can I do? What would you advice? Google Tc: 278k Fb tc:273k Fb sign on:75k Yoe:3.5 masters
Renege
Hopefully lessons learned, also you’d think you would have been considered for E5 at fb after a yr...
Yeah I have learned a few lessons from this. Also don’t want experience the same experience I had joining Google downleveled by joining Fb at l4 instead of L5
OP had 2.5 yoe when they first interviewed. Now they have 3.5, still too low for E5.
YOE?
3.5 with a masters
How much did your masters help your tc iyo
You may be able to push up comp a little, but be prepared to burn the bridge
Lesson ? Never downlevel Touch base with a recruiter - you have nothing to loose
Come to FB. That TC will easily go up as the stock moves or you get refreshers. You can easily move back to G in the future if you want and push for higher level.
Nope. That TC is just as likely to go down. OP you have leverage here, use it wisely and certainly don't throw it away.
I recently got laid off and badly in need of a referral. I came across a really good role at FB. I would appreciate any help from your end! Thanks
Work for 1 year at fb and go back to Google after that. Free 75k. Also ask fb to up the signing bonus to 100k and grant more stocks as the situations at your work changed drastically, but you’d still like to make it work with fb. Worst case they don’t increase, nothing to lose 🤷♂️
Operate in good faith, explain where your head's at honestly to all involved. What more can you do? Recruiters do this all day every day, they get how these things can go down. Organizational memories are short. No one is ever "blacklisted" for long periods of time.
Zero good faith, please do us a favor and don't join fb.
Would it help that my manager told me just this last December that L5 is feasible in the next few months. This is new information I didn’t have
You’re just promoted to l4. Your manager is lying.
Who cares, u get blacklisted so what. Join another company.
