Probably makes sense to base this on a % of net worth instead of a dollar amount since the risk is relative. That being said, I wouldn’t be comfortable having a RobinHood account at all. I closed my account after they screwed up my taxes. Got audited and the IRS told me I owed over 260k based on Robinhoods filing. Probably spent a collective 30 hours on hold with them and sent who knows how many emails. They were absolutely zero help in resolving the issue. A lot of stress, fees, and time later it worked out but I didn’t get as much as an apology from Robinhood. Now I’ve moved to a real broker. I’m not an expert investor or anything but having access to a broker who actually cares is huge. I’ve called them three times to ask stupid questions and was able to get someone on the phone in <30 seconds every time.

Thanks for sharing. When you say real broker do you mean a portfolio manager or a bigger brokerage firm? Mind sharing who you went with?

How the hell did you miss 260k taxes when you were filing taxes as you would know how much profit you made. It’s not like that’s like 2.6k

We saw what robinhood did during the GME short squeeze a few years ago, they have no credibility as a company or trading platform lol.

They are barely making any net income. It’s a company that might or might not exist tomorrow. They use payment for order flow, which means they route orders through companies like Citadel. You might not get the best price for your trade.

Nah, they are here to stay. Their AUM and user base have been growing back substantially in 2023

“Safe” and ”Robinhood” never belong in the same sentence.

As long as it is not cash but invested in stocks. It stays with you, RH is book keeper

Noom krafty-kro OP Dec 30, 2023

Wait what? Can you elaborate further?

They don't own your stock. They just enable you to trade it. If they go bankrupt as as company, you can move your stocks to another broker. Your stocks won't go down with them.
