Do you consider this an upgrade, downgrade or equivalent?
Downgrade
Senior Manager I remember is L7, Director at Netflix I’m not sure but I’d say it’s a jump since Netflix hires only seniors and you are now managing a bunch of seniors instead of an omnium gatherum of different ranks. And yea TC bump.
If this was a IC (not management) I'd say definitely an upgrade. Amazon is the lowest among FAANG, but considering how powerful managers are at Amazon (over the ICs), maybe not an upgrade.
Same TC = equivalent More TC = upgrade Less TC = downgrade That should answer your question ;)
TC?
They are pretty identical. If you get 20% or more TC, it would be a good move, otherwise, I think you have better career trajectory in Amazon given the company size and scope
Agree with the TC answer. Either way you have already made it, you don’t have to worry about padding your resume anymore. Now is the time to cash in, so shoot for highest TC.
Most engineer directors have between 30 to 50 reports. Some have over 100 with directors reporting to them.
Roughly flat. Netflix Director is closer to an L7 at Amazon than to an L8. However, I have seen people go to NFLX as Director then boomerang back as an L8 down the road so would consider this path.
Amazon L7 is 800-1.5 mil tc? Because that’s what’s director at netflix is.
30-50 person org size on average, similar scope and org size as an L7 at Amazon. Of course, my comp is on the low end of that spectrum, though it is in the band. For 1.2+ I would gladly take a Netflix Director role. 😄
